Only a Diamond Cuts Through the Heart of Music

Founded in 1932, Wharfedale’s founder, Gilbert Briggs, had one goal in mind – to bring music into the home by designing loudspeakers that conveyed the impact, thrill and emotion of performance in an entirely natural and realistic way. The all-new DIAMOND 12 Series is the best DIAMOND range yet, developed in collaboration with Karl-Heinz Fink – one of the most successful loudspeaker designers on the planet. Classic DIAMOND price points, industrial design that’s cool and contemporary yet still distinctly Wharfedale, and sound that delivers a new ‘budget’ benchmark through exceptional acoustic design and engineering – the DIAMOND 12 Series is one of the most exciting audio product launches of 2020. Embodying the performance values and history of the Wharfedale diamond series, the 12.1 is a true all-rounder that offers best of both worlds of compact size and power detail.

12.1 - Internal Build

The voice coil is wound on a high-power epoxy/glass fibre bobbin highly unusual in speakers at this price level. This has the advantage of not adding eddy currents and delivering greater power handling than an aluminium bobbin, whilst also being much stiffer than the Kapton type associated with this price-class.

The 25mm dome is made from a woven polyester film with a high-loss coating to deliver open and smoothly extended high frequencies. The magnet system and the front plate have been optimised for wide dispersion and uncompressed behaviour. The front plate is flat and exposes the dome as much as possible; only a very short duct on the front plate balances the acoustic load and improves the SPL (sound pressure level) measurement.

Wharfedale Diamond 12.C Centre Channel Speaker brings cinematic vocals and depth to a Diamond 12 series home theatre system. Designed as the perfect companion to the standmount and floorstanding models in the series, the Diamond 12.C is compact, accurate and powerful. The centre speaker uses twin 5" Klarity drivers for precise and fine-tuned mid-range and bass while the 1" tweeter extends the open highs smoothly for greater detail and depth from your music and movies.

The crossover network uses an acoustic LKR 24dB topology. This includes air-core inductors of the type more commonly found in high-end speakers, selected because they produce the lowest distortion of all inductor types. As the resistance of the coil is higher than a standard laminated steel or ferrite core inductor, the magnetic structure of the mid/bass driver has been modified to compensate, resulting in fast, clean bass with no distortion from the inductor.

The SW series of subwoofers offer a level of performance previously unheard of in their class. Revolutionary drive units, amplifier modules and filter stages feature on every model. They strike the perfect balance between power and sound quality, offering remarkable sound pressure levels, yet retaining enough control to be considered audiophile in quality.

The new range of SW subwoofers comes with a host of new features. They now come with Non-pressed paper cones for increase self-damping, improved transient impact and intern increased the structural rigidity of the cone itself. The center vents are copper lined to reduce the magnetic distortion and improve the heat dissipation.

Still utilising the solid, well-engineered power amplifiers the SW subwoofers are optimised for high impact at low frequencies and are ideal for movies or music. With the various finishes to the cabinets - Rosewood /Walnut Pearl/White sandex/Blackwood Vinyl with Hi-gloss baffle – these subwoofers look great with matching floorstanding speakers.
