Dali Oberon 1 C
Easy To Position
The driver materials, crossover design and geometry applied in the OBERON C series has been selected to achieve a wide dispersion pattern. This ensures a well-integrated sound, even when listening at a significant off-axis angle. An added benefit is seriously reduced harmonic distortion and diffractions causing frequency distortion. This is why all DALI speakers are not designed to be toed-in.
Low Latency
The SOUND HUB COMPACT transmits to OBERON C speakers using a proprietary 30 bit wireless protocol derived from the acclaimed DALI SOUND HUB. Audio transmission latency from input to speaker is typically less than 15 mS, and inter-speaker timing is accurate to the single sample period of the broadcast audio data.
Patented SMC
The iron pole piece of the OBERON C woofer magnet is crowned by the DALI patented SMC disk - minimizing the negative effects of the iron. The use of the SMC disk greatly reduces mechanical distortion, which lowers third order distortion. This allows for a longer listening pleasure, a relaxed midrange and a surprising amount of detail for its price class.
Active Speaker
The OBERON C power amplification comprises two 50 Watt peak, closed-loop Class-D power amplifiers chosen specifically for their sound quality and dynamic ability. One amplifier powers the high frequency driver, one powers the bass/mid driver (or twin drivers in the case of the OBERON 7 C).
Oberon 1 C
PRODUCT DETAILS The OBERON 1 C is intended for smaller rooms where space is a precious commodity and volume levels are relatively modest. Music lovers and audiophiles who prefer the style and sound of stand-mounted speakers will be drawn towards the OBERON 1 C. Listening to music, perhaps from CD, internet radio, or a turntable and precious record collection, is likely to be their priority over TV audio – although if the OBERON 1 C speakers are located appropriately, one on either side of the screen, TV audio may become increasingly of interest. The compactness of the OBERON 1 C makes it easy to integrate into any room. To achieve a wide dispersion pattern in the listening area, the driver materials and geometry applied in the OBERON 1 C have been carefully selected. The same principles have been applied in the design of the crossover. As result, you will experience a well-integrated sound, even when listening at a significant off-axis angle. This is important as you are rarely seated directly in front of your loudspeakers when listening to music. An added benefit is seriously reduced harmonic distortion and diffractions causing frequency distortion, as these will always be stronger in an on-axis response. This is also the reason why all DALI speakers are not designed to be toed-in.
Woofer/SMC
The OBERON 1 C builds on a 5.25" bass/midrange driver that features our proprietary fine paper pulp and reinforced wood fibre composite diaphragm materials, which creates a stiff, light-weight and well-behaving structure. In combination with a low-loss surround and spider suspension, this cone reproduces the micro details in the signal - unfiltered and with high accuracy. This is supported by the advanced copper-coated aluminium voice-coil wire and, in particular, our unique SMC (Soft Magnet Compound) magnet technology. By introducing electrically non-conductive elements to the magnet structure, SMC significantly reduces the effect of a variety of distortion-producing mechanisms inherent to moving-coil driver architecture. For example, SMC minimises eddy current effects, increases flux linearity, reduces magnetic hysteresis and minimises the variation of voice-coil inductance with position. Taken together, these benefits make SMC equipped drivers particularly suited to active amplification. The membrane terminates in a rubber surround that is chosen for its soft and very flexible properties. This gives the membrane free movement with a very low dampening effect, and leaves the magnet motor to control the membrane movement.
Amplifier
The OBERON 1 C power amplification comprises two 50 Watt-peak, closed-loop Class-D power amplifiers chosen specifically for their sound quality and dynamic ability. One amplifier powers the high frequency driver and one powers the bass/mid driver. The 100dB signal-to-noise ratio of the power amplifiers ensures that even the smallest detail in a quiet musical passage is reproduced with clarity and accuracy. The rear panel mounted OBERON 1 C electronic module incorporates a wireless receiver element and user setup interface, a DSP equalisation and crossover filter element, and a high efficiency two channel power amplifier with a closely integrated power supply. Powering the amplifier is a custom designed, 65W(rms), very low noise switched mode supply that is able dynamically to share resources between the two amplifier channels in response to demand. The OBERON 1 C is, as a result, unusually frugal in terms of power consumption, yet gives nothing away in terms of dynamic punch when the music demands it.
Tweeter
The OBERON 1 C high frequency driver is a damped textile soft dome tweeter featuring an unusually light diaphragm and a larger than typical, 29 mm diaphragm and voice-coil. The light diaphragm means that the upper frequency response of the driver is unusually extended before its mass limited roll-off. The large diameter diaphragm and voice-coil increases sensitivity and power handling, reduces distortion, and enables the driver to operate at lower frequencies than is the case with smaller tweeters, which helps provide more latitude in the crossover design. Further increasing power handling, and significantly reducing signal compression as the voice-coil temperature rises with increased volume, the driver is equipped with ferro-fluid in its voice-coil gap.
Cabinet
OBERON 1 C cabinets are constructed from CNC-machined high strength MDF panels and finished with a variety of wood-effect or matt white laminates. The cabinets are engineered for optimum rigidity to minimise panel resonance, with corner fillets. Corner fillets have become increasingly unusual in contemporary speaker cabinet construction but at DALI we believe they play an important role in ensuring rigidity. Internal cabinet damping materials are selected and positioned strategically in order to maximise midrange energy attenuation without degrading bass transient response and bandwidth, as so often the case with reflex loaded speakers. The OBERON 1 C are fitted with unusually large diameter rear panel dual-flare reflex ports that are engineered to minimise port turbulence, distortion and compression, while also factoring-in the potential proximity of the rear wall. Flaring on the port entrance, as well as on the exit, delays the onset of airflow turbulence as volume level rises, and helps ensure that bass performance remains consistent at all volume levels. Rear-mounting the reflex ports has the great advantage of directing any midrange energy emitted from inside the cabinet away from the listening position. The OBERON 1 C can be used with the DALI CONNECT Stand E-601, installed within furniture units or on shelves, or wall mounted directly via rear panel keyhole slots.
Quick Setup
Setting up a Hi-Fi system couldn't be easier. You literally only have to connect the power chord to the CALLISTO speakers and the Sound Hub followed by pushing the CONNECT button. Voilà and you are ready to stream from your phone or music server.
Touch Sensitive Volume
The touch sensitive panel atop the CALLISTO C speaker cabinet lets you control the volume at the touch of your finger tip. The included Bluetooth remote & the Sound Hub's volume knob gets the job done just as easily. Regardless of your approach, the actual volume change is done at the very end of the signal chain.
Mulitiple Sources
The Sound Hub supports a list of different sources: Bluetooth (AAC & Apt-X HD), Analogue (RCA & Mini Jack), Coaxial RCA, 2 x Optical (Audio & TV), USB output (Google Chromecast Audio) and 2 x modular expansion ports (e.g. BluOS).
BluOS expansion
Benefit from Bluesound’s incredible BluOS hi-res multi-room platform by adding the optional BluOS module. BluOS is devised by audiophiles for audiophiles to deliver the best digital sound quality imaginable throughout your house. Access almost any streaming service via the free BluOS app.
Sound Hub
The DALI Sound Hub features an extended range of digital and analogue inputs combined with an auto source sensing system. The Sound Hub automatically activates the right input the moment you start playing music or turn on your TV – so you can just sit back and enjoy exquisite audio. The front-facing volume knob embeds an LED display, which combines Hi-Fi tradition with convenience. The LED display shows the current audio source as well as the volume level, and you can even adjust the light intensity of the display. This is supported by a light display on top of the Sound Hub, which indicates the location of the speakers in the pairing process. We have made the setup simple, so you only have to worry about adjusting the volume, which can be done via a multitude of options. E.g. on the Sound Hub, by using the included Bluetooth remote, via your smart device (depends on the brand) or directly via the touch panels built atop of the CALLISTO C range. MQA Certified The DALI CALLISTO C, RUBICON C and OBERON C systems are MQA Certified. By adding the DALI BluOS NPM-1 module to your Sound Hub, you can now take advantage of the ever-growing catalogue of studio master recordings that have been encoded into MQA and streamed on services like Tidal.
Wireless Audio Transfer
The wireless connection between the Sound Hub and the speakers is an extremely stable digital connection, made on either the 2.4 GHz or the 5.8 GHz band depending on location and quality of the connection. The proprietary 30 bit protocol transfers an uncompressed I2S audio signal in 24 bit 96 kHz, utilising the remaining bits to control volume, speaker ID and other control data. Because it works on a less trafficked band, and the protocol is specially designed for transporting an audio signal, the connection is highly stable introducing next to no packet loss. The protocol uses forward error correction to remove the result of packet loss should they occur. The high bandwidth low latency protocol functions as a point to multipoint connection. This allows for multiple speakers to connect to the same stereo signal. With latency below 25 ms, sync between video and audio from a movie or TV source is obtained well within conventionally acceptable limits.
Inputs
Bluetooth Bluetooth is built into the DALI Sound Hub as standard, offering the possibility to transfer sound to the CALLISTO C, RUBICON C and OBERON C system from almost any device - supporting AAC and Apt-X HD quality. AAC is an improved audio protocol that despite still being lossy, supports a larger amount of audio data to be transferred via the Bluetooth connection. It’s the highest quality of Bluetooth transfer for an Apple product. Apt-X HD is a well-known audio protocol, allowing for compression of up to 24 bit 48 kHz audio streams and a wider bandwidth transfer than Apt-X. This allows for high quality playback of not just traditional audio files, but also HD quality music over Bluetooth, along with full backward compatibility with Apt-X. Optical The Sound Hub features two optical inputs that are controlled differently - with a clear focus on TV and audio use. The TV input is activated by the carrier signal. This enables the Sound Hub to power up the speaker system the second the TV is turned on. The audio input is activated by an audio signal, and by analysing the audio signal, the Sound Hub can determine if audio is played back, and if not, will automatically power off the system, turning it back on again when a signal is detected. The optical input accepts any data rate from 16 bit / 32 kHz to 24 bit / 192 kHz. The signal will be converted to work optimally with the 24 bit / 96 kHz wireless transfer audio protocol before being passed on to the connected speakers. Coaxial RCA For direct digital connection between an audio device and the Sound Hub. Like the optical input, it will accept from 16 bit / 32 kHz to 24 bit / 192 kHz. Analogue (RCA and mini/jack) The high-quality ADC samples the analogue signal in 24 bit / 96 kHz using the system master clock for optimal wireless transfer to the speakers in the ecosystem.
Outputs
Sub-out LFE type subwoofer output. When a subwoofer is connected, everything below 100 Hz is sent through this output to a connected subwoofer. Pre-out Line level RCA output. This output allows you to use the DALI Sound Hub as a pre-amplifier for your existing setup, making it possible to enjoy the benefits of the modular extensions and the auto source sensing capabilities. The Pre-out can also be used to connect to the CALLISTO C, RUBICON C or OBERON C speakers via a cable in cases where wireless transfer is not preferable. USB Power The built-in USB A port delivers a 5V 1A output to power connected devices like a Google Chromecast Audio, or charge a mobile device whilst playing. It is also used to update the Sound Hub’s firmware. The built in USB port does not offer the ability to playback audio stored on a connected device.
Expansion Ports
One of the most innovative features of the DALI Sound Hub is actually hidden away from view. The two modular expansion ports on the back panel open up the hub to a world of possibilities. Via the DALI designed open standard connector, any type of audio module can integrate 100% with the Sound Hub system. This enables a total seamless addition of extra hub functions - allowing for streaming, multi-room or even multi-channel expansions, but also future proofing the Sound Hub. This includes any connected speakers by separating the quickly evolving music delivery technologies from the more robust and time durable speaker technology. Our first expansion module integrates Bluesound’s incredible BluOS hi-res multi-room platform. BluOS is devised by audiophiles for audiophiles to deliver the best digital sound quality imaginable throughout your house. And because Bluesound is compatible with speakers from a variety of audiophile manufacturers, it delivers flexibility, convenience and choice as well as unparalleled quality. Which makes it a natural extension to the CALLISTO C, RUBICON C and OBERON wireless family.
MQA Certified
The wireless CALLISTO C, RUBICON C and OBERON C systems are now MQA Certified by MQA Ltd. This applies to all the products in the mentioned ranges, when the optional BluOS NPM-1 plug-in module is installed. MQA’s award-winning technology captures 100% of the original recording and packages it in a file small enough to stream. When streamed by BluOS through the Sound Hub's wireless no-loss fully digital audio transfer, every little detail in the MQA file will find its way to the ear of the listener. BluOS was an early adopter of the MQA technology and the RUBICON C, CALLISTO C and OBERON C systems now join nearly 30 other BluOS Enabled products by NAD Electronics and Bluesound. Already acquired DALI Sound Hubs, which includes a BluOS NPM-1 module, will automatically be updated with the MQA technology.
